Bangalore-Mysore Corridor(5marks)-1999 The Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor Project has evolved from the development of one of India's fastest

growing and important cities: Bangalore. The Government of Karnataka first attempted to address the rapid growth of Bangalore and the need for major infrastructure expansion in the Bangalore Mysore region in the early 1980's. At that time, the Government prepared plans for the construction of a modern expressway between the two cities. While the potential benifits of the project were apparent, the project's planning and development did not proceed due to lack of funding. In February 1995, a Consoritum of Indian and U.S. based firms was established with the mission of developing the full range of residential, commercial, transportation and environmental infrastructure in the Bangalore-Mysore region. The expressway was viewed as a catalyst for community development, job growth and improved housing opportunities. In conjuction with a 1995 Trade Mission to India sponsored by the Governor of Massachusetts, the Honorable William F. Weld, a memorandum of understanding was signed by Consortium members, Indian officials, including then Karnataka Chief Minister, H.D.Deve Gowda, and U.S. officials, which set the stage for launching the Bangalore Mysore Infrastructure Corridor project . The Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC) also called NICE road is a proposed 4 to 6 lane private tolled expressway that intends to connect the two important cities of Bengaluru and Mysore in the Indian state of Karnataka. This is being constructed by Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises (NICE) chaired by Ashok Kheny on Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) basis Social Impact South Bangalore has been experiencing severe traffic congestion. One of the cause for this congestion is the numerous vehicles that head out towards Mysore and other cities. Bangalore is badly in need of an infrastructure uplift before life can improve for its citizens. This hi-speed fenced high-way was envisioned to help with this congestion.
