Some people say that television watching can damage a childs development. Many children spend a lot of their leisure time in front of the tube. The programs on television can delight and educate children if they get a proper guidance. But TV viewing is often unguided. Heavy viewing, two or three hours daily, can make children passive and less imaginative. Watching TV for a long period is not as creative as reading. When children like watching TV too much, they are reluctant to read because reading needs more efforts. Preschool children play less if they spend too much time watching TV. This is bad because playing is important for growing children. It helps them become more imaginative, less anxious and improve their ability to communicate with others. It is important that parents guide their childrens TV viewing. The programs on TV can influence childrens lives. Children should watch programs that develop good attitudes, for example, shows that give children a better understanding of the world. Children should not watch programs which are full of violence. Some children are too young to understand such shows. They may try to do violence. Parents should limit the number of hours of watching TV. Children under 14 should only watch TV one or two hours a day. preschool students should be limited to one hour a day.
