England Netball has developed a new series of workshops aimed at providing club coaches / teachers who are regularly

planning sessions with a better understanding of a specific area of player and game development, the toolkit required to analyse and correct technique and fresh ideas for building practices and sessions. We shall be holding a Winning the Ball: Essential Defending Skills for Netball in Guildford on Sunday 28th October 2012. Course Information: Title: Winning the Ball: Essential Defending Skills for Netball Date: Sunday 28th October 2012 Venue: Surrey Sports Park, University of Surrey, Guildford, GU2 7AD Time: 12.00pm 3.00pm Cost: 25 affiliated members, 35 non-affiliated members Tutor: Peter Carter (Level 3 coach) Booking: Please complete and return booking form attached (20 places available). The regional U19 Excel (talent) squad will be training at Surrey Sports Park that day from 3.00pm 6.00pm and coaches are welcome to stay on after the workshop and observe this session if they wish. Course Summary: This workshop will examine how coaches can develop defensive practices that are both variable and relevant in a game context to ensure that players are encouraged to make decisions on how, where and when to force errors and/or turnovers. Coaches will be introduced to the principles of defending and will have the opportunity to observe and analyse performance. Through this process coaches will develop their questioning technique encouraging the player to make considerations and effective decisions based on the cues that are happening around them. Outcomes By the end of the workshop, a coach should be able to: construct defensive focused practices that enable players to make effective decisions design appropriate and effective questions that change players behaviour organise a practice so it meets the needs of all players Please note that this is a practical workshop and may require coaches to participate in some activities, it is therefore advisable to ensure appropriate clothing and footwear is worn.
