 Literacy Rate India 79.9% (In Slums 68%) www.india.gov.in  Around 6 crores educated youth are unemployed in India www.theindian.com  Growing rate of slums- 26% of Indian population www.unhabitat.org  Total Job availability 1.1 billion job in 2010 www.india.gov.in

Statistics: Slum Community of Mumbai


 Percentage of people in slums: 55% (7 millions 70 lakhs)  Percentage of Youths in slums (18-30 yrs): 44.05% of people in slums (30.84 lakhs)  Percentage unemployed in slums: 68% (47.6 lakhs)  Percentage of youth unemployed in slums: 72% of youth in slums (22.2 lakhs)  Average salary of an employed person in a slum: Rs. 48/day  Literate youths: 72.48% (18 lakhs)  Percentage of youth cleared 10th std. in slums: 42% (13 lakhs) Source: www.indiastat.com, www.mospi.nic.in.

Need For Bridge - Vocational Training Program


Overview:
 Vocational Training Program prepares learners for jobs that are based on manual or practical activities, traditionally non-academic and totally related to a specific trade or occupation  72.48% of Youth from Slum Communities being Literate, lack Efficient & Effective Skill set  Only 5% of the Indian youth labour force has obtained vocational skills whereas it is 60%-96% in industrialized countries Only about 2.5 million undergo vocational training programs whereas about 12.8 million persons enter the labour market every year Source: World Bank Report (www.worldbank.org), 2009

Problems with the current VTPs


 Very Few Vocational Training Program cater to early school dropouts (About 63% of the school students drop out at different stages before reaching Class-X)  Minimum Educational Entry Requirements and Long Duration of Courses  Unaffordable Courses & Uneasy Access  Monotonous Curriculum Design & Lack of Quality Education leads to early Drop out  Lack of On-Field & Hands-On Training  Tough to Reason out, to consider joining the program (Lack of Additional Benefits)

PRAGATI
Introduction & Objective
 PRAGATI aims to develop, facilitate & propagate practices that will help the underprivileged deprived youth to join the economic main stream through a wide array of Vocational Training Program designed towards empowering them.  Providing right skill set & talent, through a vast network of (NGO) Community Channel & Industry Partnership  Providing employable training, cultivate & nurture a technical & industrial attitude in the minds of younger generation  PRAGATI encourages adopting right values, transparency & code of conduct in business

Model / Methodology
1) Community Channel
Target people: Deprived Underprivileged Youth (18-30 years) Steps & Process:  Mobilizing the aspirants through (NGO) communities & creating Interest Inventory  Class-room training at NGO Premises  Faculties: Industry Consultants & Professionals from Academic & Corporate Fraternity  Curriculum: Theoretical & Practical Applications (Role-plays , Work Readiness Module, etc) - Computerization (Computer Education Institute) - On-the-Job Training - Placement Assistance In association with Industry Partnership.

2) Direct channel
Target people: Youth (18-30 years) Steps & Process:     Marketing & Promotion Registration at School / Colleges Class-room Training at School / Colleges Faculties: Industry Consultants & Professionals from Academic & Corporate Fraternity Curriculum: - Theoretical & Practical Applications (Role-plays , Work Readiness Module, etc) - Computerization (Computer Education Institute) - On-the-Job Training - Placement Assistance Assistance in setting up Micro-Enterprises

3) Franchisee Channel
Target Group:  Small medium entrepreneurs & companies in need of training for planning, expansion, diversification & modernization
 To Understand management & business techniques to apply in Live Environment  For different levels- Floor, Executive & Managerial

 Class-room training at School / Colleges, Office Premises  Customized Training Solution & skill enhancement program with comprehensive learning material  Faculties: Industry consultants & professionals from Corporate Fraternity

4) Self Help Group Channel


Target Group: Self Help Groups (SHGs) Steps & Process:
  Identifying & Mobilizing Self Help Groups Requisite Skills Training in: Entrepreneurship, Retailing, Packaging, Branding, Customer Management, Life Skills, Computer Basics and Communicative English Assistance in Marketing their products effectively Assistance in obtaining necessary Market Linkages & Technical Knowhow Facilitating & Organizing Handicrafts Fairs & Exhibitions showcasing various items produced / manufactured by them

 PRAGATI, through its mission would impart vocational training to 4320 deprived youth & empower them with employment opportunities within a time span of 3 years  PRAGATI would in the duration of 3 years, insure life of 3600 family members of the participants  The skills gained would not only make them employable but would also help curb the issues of domestic violence, juvenile crimes & other facets of vulnerable prevailing in the society  Setting up micro-enterprises, making entrepreneurs self sustainable & independent to lead productive & socially useful lives  Establish growth to Self Help Group by promoting & providing a platform to showcase their business dynamics
