CRIME ALERT RESIDENTS BE AWARE

Police from South Brisbane District have identified a growing number of sneak break offences. This means offenders are entering homes/units through unlocked doors and windows. These offences are occurring at any time of the day or night and in some instances while residents are at home. Once inside offenders are stealing easy to conceal items such as wallets, handbags, phones, laptops, ipads, ipods, cash, and jewellery. Please be aware it is not uncommon for offenders to steal your car keys and your car. Be responsible; protect yourself, your family and your property. For basic home security please do the following: Key lock all doors and security screens including those on the balcony or verandah Key lock or secure all windows especially those with out security screens Hide your valuables in non-obvious places Keep the front of your home secured even while you are home, offenders have been known to come through closed but unlocked front doors/window and steal items while residents are at the rear of their homes

It is important to secure your home in a way that requires the offender to create noise if they were to attempt to break in. Hopefully the noise would alert you to their presence. Once confronted most offenders run away. If someone is trying to break into your home, or you hear a home being broken into please call 000 immediately.
