30 - 31 October 2012 The Japanese Foundation, Kuala Lumpur and Media Art Living Lab (MALL), Multimedia University (MMU) Cyberjaya. University Living Lab (MALL), Multimedia University. Generally, the curators and media artists discussed development and emerging trends among senior and emerging artists from both countries. They also shared valuable insights on on-going which they are involved presently. The visiting Japanese curators were Hiroyuki Hattori (Aomori Contemporary Art Centre), Daiya Aida (Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media) and Keiko Okamura (Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography). The group was lead by Yuri Takeda (Japan Foundation Tokyo). The participating artists from Malaysia were Goh Lee Kwang, Chong Chan Fui, Chi Too, Vincent Leong, Kamal Sabran, Haris Abadi, Kok Siew Wai, Lim Kok Yoong, and Fairuz Sulaiman. Themed on Inclusive Innovation for Transformation, the 2-day event brought together 1,800 representatives from 50 countries aimed on utilizing innovation to increase the countrys productivity, competitiveness, reduce poverty and inequality, thus addressing the needs of the people at the economic base of the pyramid. It was jointly organized by Yayasan Inovasi Malaysia (YIM) and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), spearheaded by MOSTI in partnership with other ministries and also government agencies.

JAPANESE MEDIA ART CURATOR VISIT TO KUALA LUMPUR

3 - 7 November 2012 Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) Japan Foundation Tokyo recently worked with Japan Foundation KL to organize a Japanese curator visit to Malaysia. The main objective of this visit was to foster a better understanding of the Malaysian context within the media art scene. The curators wanted to meet local media artists in order to establish a personal connection with them and their works.

WORLD INNOVATION FORUM - KUALA LUMPUR (WIF-KL) 2012

Part of WIFKL the Anugerah PIALA CIPTA Dengan Inovasi Yo!, an awards show to recognize 25 emerging innovators and highlight their innovative and creative efforts. This event was hosted by Low Ngai Yuen (KakiSeni) and Hakim Albasrawy (Dengan Inovasi Yo!) and part of the `innovative twist the show, customized colourful and youthful visuals were created to showcase the spirit of the young innovators. The visuals were created by Fairuz Sulaiman (DAM Interactive). The audience was entertained by local music performers such as Tomok, Altimet, Point Blanc, Ila Damia, Rabbit Mac and DJ Fuzz, Amir Jahari and Band, and Floor Fever.

Local liaison coordinator, Kyoko Kugai (JFKL) worked with KL-based curators, Suzy Sulaiman (DAM Interactive) and Adeline Ooi (Rouge Art Asia) to organize two `meet-the-artist sessions. The first session kicked-off at Japan Foundation KLs head office in Kuala Lumpur while the second session was held at the Media Art Living Lab (MALL), Multimedia

The World Innovation Forum Kuala Lumpur (WIF-KL) 2012 was a forum dedicated to international innovation. It was launched by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin where he played a video that showcased Malaysia as a hub for world innovation.
