More from Gifts of Hope Guest Speaker

Fatima Castillo, executive director of Gifts of Hope was the speaker for the October 1 meeting. Members learned about the current activities of the non-profit organization. Gifts of Hope does so much for the Permian Basin cancer patients and their families. Services include everything from hosting support groups, to providing Hope House overnight accommodations for out of town patients and their families, to providing lunch to patients taking chemotherapy treatments. Brune Torres is one of our members who has provided lunch for these patients. The towels that Zeta Xi members collected for Hope House were very appreciated. Fatima reported that over 70 bath towels, hand towels and wash cloths were donated. Great job Zeta Xi members! Many of you asked the location of the Gifts of Hopes Hope House. The address is 2006 W. Tennessee Avenue. Be sure and call Fatima first before visiting. Volunteers are always needed at Gifts of Hope. With so many services provided, there are many volunteer jobs to fill. Volunteers may provide transportation for patients appointments, help with fundraisers, or supply refreshments for the support groups. If you would be interested in volunteering for Gifts of Hope, contact Fatima Castillo at 218-8714.

Jann Pullig is out of the hospital and doing much better. Sandy Hammontree recently had foot surgery and her husband had surgery also. Who is taking care of whom? Joyce Hobbss new address is 3020 Ridge Rd, Rockwall, TX 75032. Although Joyce has moved to Rockwall, she is maintaining her DKG membership. Yay! Please drop her a line. We all miss Joyce. Pat Southerland needs your thoughts and prayers for her recovery. Lois Hagins had an interesting experience as she was researching Norway for the International Potluck Dinner . Lois went on the International web page and clicked on Norway. A chapter web page in Norway opened. After sending an e-mail telling them about Zeta Xis International Potluck Dinner, one of their members responded with two Norwegian recipes. Come taste what authentic dish, Lois has prepared for the dinner.

Letter from Lois

Ladies, I am so excited about our November meeting. We will have a meeting packed with so many different things which are important to our organization.. First we will be sampling food from all of the eighteen countries that have Delta Kappa Gamma organizations, next we will have our World Fellowship Silent Auction to support Teachers in Latin American countries, and lastly we will have our initiation of our newest member, Kylee Milican. Thank you to Patti Groce, Kathy Landrum, and Anita Patton and their committees that will make all of these things happen. Pat Adams, Ann Andrews, and Joy Cunningham are still accepting names of friends and family that you think might want to contribute to our Storybook Christmas. Did you see the ad in the MRT this past week? If you have not made your contribution please do so soon. Remember our donations go to cover the cost of postage and printing for letters, thank you notes and book plates. We really don't use the donations from the public for anything but books. Thank you for getting your dues to Susan Harmon in a timely manner. It is so important for her to be able to send the check to state on time. Everything we do as a chapter makes a difference as far as continuing to be an award winning chapter. I challenge you to continue to look for sharp quality women teacher you think would enjoy and be an asset to our chapter. Invite them to our meeting in order for them to see what a great group we have and how we are dedicated to helping women educators. See you Monday night with your items for the silent auction, your dish from your country and a prospective new member. You are the best, Lois Hagins
