Reminders!
Remember to wear your membership pin and enter your name in the drawing for a door prize. Remember to wear red to show our society color. Please bring auction items for the World Fellowship Auction and money or checkbook for bidding. Remember to bring your potluck dish from your chosen Delta Kappa Gamma International membership country. (Call Patti 687-0732 if you have forgotten the country you chose.) Please bring a copy of your recipe to share. Please bring your magazines for Casa de Amigos and toiletries for Safe Place. Remember to bring birthday pennies for your November birthday. Ann Andrews and Pat Adams are still accepting names and addresses of people who might donate to Storybook Christmas. Remind your family and friends that a donation to Storybook Christmas in your honor might help make their gift giving easier. Bring your list of donors and their addresses to the meeting or mail the list to Ann Andrews, 106 N. Bentwood Drive, Midland, Texas 79703. Invite that special lady to visit Zeta Xi so she can learn more about our wonderful society Delta Kappa Gamma. Also ask that friend you invited a few years ago to be a member, but she dropped out after her life interfered with her membership. Maybe her life will cooperate now and she can easily be reinstated into DKG. No matter whom you invite, theyll love our International Potluck Program. Dont forget you can read this newsletter and view more member pictures online at www.zeta-xi.org thanks to our wonderful webmaster Susan Harmon. If you have pictures you want included on our website, e-mail those to Susan. Susan has also included links to State and International websites on our website. Just hover over the web address and click twice to access the website.
The October meeting was held in Anita Pattons home. Anita and hostesses, Kathy Anderson, Virginia Conner, Nancy Doss, Martha Savage, and Dorothy Thompson treated attendees to fall theme refreshments, including birthday cake to celebrate the fifty-first anniversary of Zeta Xi. The meeting was called to order by President, Lois Hagins at 7:00 p.m. Roll call response was an early birthday memory. Pat Adams delivered the inspiration with her favorite poem. First VP Patti Groce introduced Fatima Castillo, Executive Director of Gifts of Hope, a non-profit organization supporting cancer patients and their families within the Permian Basin. Ms. Castillo informed members of the various services offered by Gifts of Hope and thanked attendees for their contributions of towels to Hope House. Patti reminded members the November meeting, at Nancy Dosss, will be the World Fellowship Auction; please bring new or slightly used items for the silent auction. Also sign up to bring a dish for the International Potluck. Lois Hagins commented members might go online to research and provide facts about their dishs country of origin. Darlene Olson, second VP, redistributed a yearbook information sheet for members to edit or confirm. Treasurer, Susan Harmon, reported a balance of $809.31 and stated she is collecting dues tonight. Susan read a list of out-of-town members and informed members Pat Southerland is still at MMH in intensive care. Minutes were approved as written in the newsletter. Natalie Eustace encouraged attendees to mark June 19-23 on their calendars for the 2013 State Convention to be held in Austin at the Renaissance Hotel. The Chapter pays for a portion of the hotel room. As Achievement Award Chair, Natalie recognized Dorothy Thompson, Billie Merriman, and Ann Andrews as longstanding and faithful members of Zeta Xi. They were asked to recall a favorite and unknown glimpse into their past. Corresponding Secretary, Martha Savage, read a thank you from CASA for the magazines received. Storybook Christmas Chairs, Pat Adams and Ann Andrews have sent letters with the prior years newspaper ad to about 200 prospective donors. They explained members donations generally are used to acquire supplies; expenses range from $400 - $700 a year. Scholastic usually gives a 40 per cent discount; a book has not been chosen. Lois Hagins recommended last months guest, Kylie Millican for membership in Zeta Xi. Kylee has 9 years teaching experience with additional involvement in the MISD/Midland College AVID program. Members voted by ballot in favor of Kylees membership. Anita Patton announced she will be placing the order for the 2012 Texas State ornament; please sign the order sheet if you wish to purchase. This is a fund raiser for the Chapter. Patti Groce won the drawing prize for wearing her membership pin. Lois thanked the hostesses for refreshments and attendees for contributing the towels and toiletries. Meeting was concluded with the Delta Kappa Gamma song.
