Bronchodilat ors

Relaxes bronchial, uterine and vascular smooth muscle by stimulating beta2 Receptors.

Treatment of acute severe asthma and in routine management of chronic bronchospasm unresponsive to conventional therapy.

Contraindicated in patient hypersensitivity to drugs or its content. Use cautiously in patient with CV disorders including coronary insufficiency and hypertension, hyperthyroidism or diabetes mellitus. Use extendedrelease tablets cautiously in patients with GI narrowing

A small increase in heart rate may occur in patients who inhale a large dosage of salbutamol. This is not usually accompanied by any changes in the electrocardiogra m. Other side effects which occur with very high doses of salbutamol by inhalation are peripheral vasodilatation and the fine tremor of skeletal muscle.

Drug may decrease sensitivity of spirometry used for diagnosis of asthma. Warn patient about risk of paradoxical bronchospasm and to stop drug immediately if it occurs. If prescriber orders more than one inhalation, tell patient to wait at least 2 minutes before repeating procedure. Tell patient that use of spacer device may improve drug delivery to lungs.
