UC nighclub article 12-28-12 The name- nightclub- describes a club that stays open late at night and is usually

an entertainment venue for patrons to frequent. Is there a difference amount nightclubs, bars,and taverns? Yes- most often , a nightclub, has some kind of dance floor and features a DJ playing music in a style enjoyed by those who visit the club. Music in nightclubs was provioded by lib=ve bands in the 19060's up until the 1990's when recorded became much more prevelant. Today some clubs feature live bands but the vast majority use a DJ playing recorded music. Entry into a nightlub is often an exclusive affair based on age, membership, dress, or other elite filter. Entrance into a club is often an obscurity designed to keep a certain focused profile in or out without violating codes. A charge known as a cover charge is often required for entry. Some clubs boast no cover charge until a certain hour. Women are often given free entry to a nightclub as an enticement for men to pay and get in. Some clubs keep a guestlist with names of select patrons on the list. These people can get in at redued or no charge. These guests sometimes have a special line or entrance and can gain access to the club via special sign ups on a website, through an application, or recommendation. A predictable mix of clientelle determines the success of a nightclub. For this reason , guest selection is important. Dress codes can help filter the patrons. Certain types of clothing are banned from clubs in order to keep a certain value is upheld amoung the club goers. Bouncers and others are gievn the authority to enforce dress codes and behavior standards in order to maintain balance. Page 1
