Communication Through Second Language Pedagogy

Abstract: This article

focuses on intercultural communication and its contribution to second language learning and pedagogy. It presents the foundations ofspeech acts and discusses how culture and pragmatic norms in several languages differ from the English language. Discussions on the importance of and issues regarding interlanguage pragmatics and how it influences communication across cultures are also presented. The writer also provides some considerations on how to raise pragmatic awareness of these differences among ESL learners through suggested classroom tasks and material development.
