IE LITERACY READING PRE-SECONDARY ESSENTIAL UNIT 29 (E29)

(Drama)
Unit Statement: In this unit the student will experience the richness of theatrical drama. The student will read a variety of plays and understand the elements of theatre. Additionally, the student will evaluate and compare the ways plot, characterization, setting, and dialogue are developed in dramatic readings versus text-based readings. The student will employ the reading strategy of Inferring to reach better comprehension of the characters in the plays read.

ESSENTIAL OUTCOME The Student Will read dramatic readings at the appropriate reading level. TSW recognize and describe the characters, setting, conict, climax, and theme of at least one dramatic reading. TSW summarize the plot of a play according to the scenes and acts of the play. TSW analyze characters according to dialogue, actions, and responses of other characters. TSW infer the characters motivations and feelings from dialogue and actions described in at least one play. TSW recognize and differentiate between three genres of plays: dramas, comedies, and tragedies. TSW compare and contrast ways that plot, characterization, setting, and dialogue are developed in dramatic readings versus textbased readings.
