Prob-1 If the value of the critical angle is 73.2 degree and the refractive index of the first medium is 1.52. Determine the refractive index of second medium. Prob-2 Find the value of refractive index of the medium if the velocity of light in the medium considered is 1.1 10^8m/s. .Assume the velocity of light in a free space is 310^8 m/s. Prob-3 An optical fiber made of silica glass with refractive index of the core as 1.55 and the refractive index of cladding as 1.51. Find the numerical aperture and acceptance angle for fiber if launching takes place from air. Prob-4 A silica optical fiber having numerical aperture of 0.40 and core refractive index difference for fiber is 1% determine, (a) The acceptance angle for the fiber if launching takes place from air (b) The critical angle at the core cladding interface. Prob-5 A multimode step index fiber with a core diameter of 60 m and a relative refractive index difference of 1% is operating at a wavelength of 0.80 m. If the refractive index of the core is 1.5, determine (a) The normalized frequency for the fiber (b) The approximate number of modes it will support. Prob-6 A graded index fiber with a parabolic index profile support the propagation of 700 guided modes. The core diameter of fiber is 30 m and having numerical aperture in the air of 0.62. Find the wavelength if the light propagating in the fiber. Prob-7 A single mode step index fiber has a core diameter of 7m and a core refractive index of 1.49 Determine: (a) The shortest wavelength of the light which allows single mode operation when the relative refractive index difference for the fiber is 1% (b) The maximum possible relative index for the fiber if the fiber core diameter is increased to 10 m while maintaining single mode operation at the same wavelength. Prob-8 Prove that the maximum value of / is approximately 1.4 times larger for a parabolic refractive index profile single mode fiber than for a single mode step index fiber. Prob-9 A graded index fiber with parabolic refractive index profile core has relative index difference of 1% and the refractive index at the core axis is 1.47.Find the maximum diameter of the fiber which gives a single mode operational wavelength of 1.5 m.
