Kailey Faris Philosophy of Education

I believe education is about learners achieving their individual potential. I believe

education should prepare students for life long learning. Education is about giving children confidence to succeed in the classroom and within their daily lives. Success in education begins with classroom management, differentiated instruction, and global learners. Classroom management is vital to facilitate productive learning. Instruction needs to be consistent with discipline, one-on-one interactions, and assessments. The teacher and students should establish a social contract cooperatively. These guidelines and rules need to be revisited throughout the school year to ensure dynamic instruction. The students should be part of a learning community in which they feel comfortable asking questions. Studentselected activities and projects in a cooperative learning environment will be beneficial to developing authentic instruction. Differentiated instruction allows for a personalized experience, which ensures that students meet their goals within the classroom. Instruction should include thematic and integrated curriculum. Student-centered learning should be integrated into all lesson plans. Differentiated instruction will facilitate learning for all children at the level they are competent, but it is essential to honor grade level expectations. It is imperative to be conscious of progress or digressions of students understanding. Portfolio assessment, self and peer evaluations, and immediate feedback are crucial in maintaining progress of individual expectations. I believe it is valuable to encourage children to become well-rounded individuals, while focusing on leadership development and teamwork skills. I believe children should be affirmed that diversity enriches their lives. One-to-one dialogue helps to create a students need to seek out his or her own level of learning. Education should be a culturally enriched environment with global perspectives. I believe education is honoring individual differences and exposing children to new experiences. It will be my responsibility to create an interactive learning environment where students have respect for others, self-responsibility, community focus and individual rights.
