Learning Task in

Philosophy of Education

WHY YOU TEACH

My journey with my students gave me a deeper understanding about myself as a person

and as an educator. I have confirmed that every human person has a context in his/her life. Each

person has his/ her own story that resonates in his/her day to day existence. In the process of day

to day online or face to face instruction and interacting with the learners, truths come out from

the words of each of them, and realities are seen in the vicinity of the classroom. Our daily

encounter with students means emptying our minds and opening ourselves to realities. My

teaching career provided me a clear picture of what my profession is all about… Verily,

witnessing and interaction to the young, is both life-giving and liberating.

Moreover, I believe that teaching is about sharing a piece of our lives with students and

the learning community. Teaching is a powerful path to personal growth and long-term

satisfaction. The sense of joy and reward that comes from teaching is unparalleled. Thus, the

purpose of education is to develop a person's complete personality, resulting in his holistic

formation. Our role is to be a catalyst for growth and success. Instructors have an important role

in the total formation of the young, thus educators should be passionate about teaching and

reaching out to students. Teaching should be the foundation of our giving. It is not how much we

give that matters, but how much love we put into giving.

WHOM YOU TEACH?

Today's learning community is composed of young individuals who need too much

attention and affirmation. Learners are competitive and proactive, and they are often allowed the
freedom to be critical and outspoken. Regardless of the quality of today's students, instructors

must still deal effectively with a diverse range of students in the classroom. Today's schools

should foster an environment that embraces diversity, including various backgrounds,

perspective, and beliefs of students, families, and faculty. In every educational setting, fostering

and accepting similarities, differences, and identities is encouraged.

HOW AND WHAT DO YOU TEACH?

I believe that teachers are the best people to inspire and motivate students since they are

the heart and soul of education. I suggest that educators restart the implementation of

"humanizing education." HUMANIZING EDUCATION  focuses on each student's context,

current realities, and lived experiences. It entails "meeting the students where they are, on their

own terms as learners and human beings, as opposed to a standardized curriculum and the

teachers' standards."

CEAP schools in the Philippines have been promoting " The Whole Child Approach,"

LEARNER- CENTERED, which suggests that teachers should refocus their lessons on the

academic needs and interests of their students. Consequently, students learn best when

instruction is contextualized.

To humanize education, teachers should be first be abreast to the current pedagogy and

paradigm shift ; have a growth and adaptive mindset ; as well as retool and reinvent skills and

strategies. . Generally, teachers today should always be on guard on classroom pedagogies and

other educational innovations.

Moreover, teachers should unlearn the traditional teaching strategies and shift to

instructional design for interactive classroom learning experiences such as collaborative

learning, project and problem based learning and self-directed learning. Hence, a “Learning

Experience Design” should replace a course outline or a lesson plan. Instructions are designed

in such a way that students are motivated for classroom engagement and to balance the needs of

individual students,

Relative to the new paradigm shift of instruction, students should master the most

essential skills demanded by industries and the corporate world. Critical thinking is crucial in

global concerns and issues. Students learn how to understand context, opposite views, and

whole range of issues; to think for themselves; to discern and make personal assessment and to

think pro-actively. Consequently, curriculum should be updated and modified to align to the

current needs and interest of the new set of learners.

Finally, the relationship among stakeholders is also instrumental in creating a positive

school culture and a conducive learning environment. Teachers should have the ministry

presence and are supposed to give reassurance and grace to students and parents during these

difficult times. A strong home- school relationship should be established. Finally, the mission

and vision of the school and the reason for its existence must be visible and felt in all aspects of

school innovation and initiatives.
