What is the affective filter hypothesis ?


The hypothesis stated by krashen says that the affective filter Its an imaginary barrier that prevents the students to learn a second language
Emotional factors can make a big difference in their learning. Motivation ,self-confidence, stress, hungry,

boredom, anxiety,panic, insecurity ......etc

How does it work ?


When the affective

filter is high the opportunities of learning decrease.

How can we lower the affective filters?


Creating a nurturing environment based on what is

familiar to them or what they like. Allow the students to work with others in meaningful tasks. Don not force anyone to participate, Do not put the on the spotlight. Have a buddy system. Have an open teacher-student relationship. Dont assume how they feel or that its on their head.
