1) We play the traditional G - 7, 3, 2i, 5 with the OLBs at 4x4 and the Mike @ 41 and Will at 10 (stacked behind

Nose). What is the reason you play your Nose in a 1 technique, Will in a 30, and Mike in a 20??

The big thing for us is alignment FOR assignment. We have all 6 gaps covered by the in-the-box players. We have set the front predicated on strong-side runs.we discourage strong-side dive with the 1 & 3.there is little room to squeeze through because were crowding the center and guard. This essentially protects the MLB (S). This creates a much cleaner read for the MLB (S) because it is either going to hit that A gap or it will be way out of his AO. The MLB (S) only needs to be concerned with the Strong A gap, that is it. If MLB reads flow weak, he immediately is stacking behind the double-team on the nose (and never bends it outside). If the MLB sees strong flow, but outside his immediate gap (A) isnt threatened, so he can scrape over the top the 3 tech to the 7 tech.and never outside of that. We read flow to opposite line (guard) read. We are going to the back flow, UNLESS the playside lineman shows us something contrary (back goes left, guard goes right). On the board, search for 900 days in the defensive section for Run Thrus or IN-AT-OUT, those threads go into great detail how we train it.

The WILB (W) is only concerned with weak B gap. This is the biggest weakness in the defense if he cannot plug the lead back on ISO. Therefore, we train him from day one to look for the blast on every play (because that is the only play that can truly beat him). Run TO, he has to shoot the B gap to engage the lead back with inside arm and spill it to the S over the top. He has to meet the back in the gap, otherwise it is hosed. We go to a G if Iso is problem to help protect the W.going to an Under front really fucks this up for offenses because youve just taken away the bubble. Action outside, he supports B until the ball is outside the WDEbut again, that really isnt his job (force & alley players). Action away (strong) he goes to strong A gap (thats it). The big thing with these two inside guys is to just get them on fast-flow and compartmentalize their area of operation..within the tackle box and never outside opposite A. Again, it is all about not being cute we line up where we are supposed to besure we stem our guys, but the bottom line is orienting them with alignment to the people they are matched up with in gap support.

2) Also, what do your backers read? We played the CW Post way, where they read flow. Mike had Strong A, but we had him at the inside leg of the tackle because if both backs when Full Flow (Strong A) - Mike and Will would converge to Strong A.

This is the Flow Response of both inside guys Just flip it for the other side. Luckily, we have never opened with Wing-t / DW teams, so we could start with clean reads of flow for our guys to get their confidence level up.when you face those misdirection teams, it is all about guard reads. We dont set guard reads as our foundations for several reasons; 1) 2) You wont get any clear reads, because we are covering both guards You wont get very clear reads from HS offensive linemen consistently

3) Which three blitzes of yours would you use as a starting point?

These are all simple stunts we throw in during the 2nd week.they are great as run-stunts and pass rush combos. EON + RAT is great in long yardage (draw) situations to delay the rush.
