Thomas H. Kean
Chair
National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States
301 7th Street, SW
Room 5125
Washington, DC 20407

Dear Mr. Kean:

I wish to apprise you of some documents that may prove extremely useful in the work of
your commission.

The Transportation Security Administration holds a database called the Security

Summary Synopsis Database. The individuals who hold access to this database is
Douglas Callen, Director, Office of Security, and Patricia M. Riep-Dice, Associate
Director, Freedom of Information Act and Privacy Act Division, TSA Headquarters,
TSA-20, 601 South 12th Street, Arlington, Virginia 22202-4220.

The Security Summary Synopsis database contains descriptions of security incidents at

U.S. Airports for the time period January 1, 2001 through the present.

The TSA also holds documents called Security Summary Memoranda, from each FAA
Region, which describe these incidents in more detail, for the time period 1996 through
2000.

Ms. Riep-Dice is intimately familiar with these documents as she has been processing my
requests for these documents under the Freedom of Information Act since April 2000.
And they are still processing portions of these documents.

I respectfully suggest that you obtain these documents and review them for material that
will aid the work of your commission.

Sincerely,

Michael Ravnitzky
