    Draught, also called draft, is the difference in pressure between the hot flue gases inside a boiler furnace and chimney compared to the cold air outside. It is caused by the height difference between the inside chimney containing the lighter, hot flue gases and the outside air column, creating a pressure differential. The pressure is lowest at the bottom of the chimney where the flue gases exit the furnace and highest at the top of the chimney open to the outside air.

    Q. What is draught (draft)? Ans. The difference in pressure of the combustion products within a boiler furnace and the cold air outside is known as (draught or draft). Draught is also the differential pressure between the air column (chimney height) outside and the hot flue gas column (chimney height) insidethe chimney. See Fig: 7 .1.
