Defending the Legacy

Fact Sheet

What is Legacy?
A legacy is something transmitted by or received from an ancestor or predecessor. It is a gift bestowed upon members within of a lineage. 100 Black Men preserves and defends the legacy of our future by organizing and maintaining a concerted investment in our youth that includes education grants, mentoring, networks and a foundation for success.

How does 1oo Black Men Help?

The mission of 100 Black Men of America, Inc. is to substantially improve the chance of success of youth, specifically males, and to help them achieve responsible, selfsufficient and law abiding manhood by their participation in programs designed to build self-esteem, develop appropriate moral values, motivate and promote cultural competence, and to the extent possible, assist them in the pursuit of higher education and lifelong learning. We accomplish our mission through holistic mentoring programs that addresses the social, emotional and cultural needs of children ages 8-18. We also have a host of scholarship and specified educational programming that provides kids with the intellectual capacity to succeed. We offer Health and Wellness programs that help fight disease and keep our youth growing strong. Our economic empowerment programs are second to none and offer our perspectives, crafts and skills to kids who have to maneuver an ever-changing world. We give our legacy all that we have to offer and we suggest you do the same.

Who Needs it?

We do! African American men are disproportionately represented in the criminal justice system. They also are constantly at risk of falling victim to homicide and tend to lack health insurance while unemployment rates among these men are consistently above average. 100 Black Men of America knows that without direction, our young men are lambs to the slaughter, and if we allow that to happen on our watch, then what does it say about us? We stand in truth so that we may leave them a better world. A legacy is essential to any existence of progress here and thereafter.
