Albany County to Mark Global Youth Service Day


Albany County Executive Daniel McCoy has long supported initiatives that give young people the opportunity to give something back to the community. Over the years youngsters have responded by pitching in to help. This year is no different as the Albany County Youth Bureau, part of the Department of Children Youth and Families, is again participating in Global Youth Services Day, a day when young people are recognized for their civic engagement and community spirit. The day will start at 9 a.m. with various community services projects and at 12:30 p.m. there will be a celebration The schedule is as follows: 9 a.m. - Noon - Youth and adult volunteers report to work site and complete tasks as assigned by service site leaders. 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. - A DJ will open a celebration for participants at the Lincoln Park Bathhouse where lunch will be served. There will also be a book giveaway and community service exhibits. 1:15 p.m. Albany County Legislator Norma Chapman and others will speak at a program to honor the youths in attendance. ###
