The Planets in Our Solar System APA Cited: Branley, F. M. (1981). The Planets in Our Solar System. New York, New York: Harper Collins.

The planet we live on is called Earth, one of the eight planets that go around the sun. The eight planets are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. Since 2006 Pluto is considered a dwarf planet. The sun is the most important part of the solar system that is where sol: in solar comes from because its the sun system. The moon is called the Earths satellite because it goes around the Earth. In the solar system there are also asteroids, comets, and meteoroids. The planets move in paths around the sun called orbits. Earth is the only planet where people live so it is known as, life planet. This literacy development comes from a science based book. It used the terminology to inform the students of the solar system. The book goes through various science based vocabulary words. For this activity the students will take a worksheet that is labeled with the eight different planets. They will color them according to the correct colors. Then they will number the planets closest to the sun to the farthest. They will use 1 as the closest. Two standards for this activity include 2.RIT.5 and 2.RIT.7.
