Dominic # 208 The Events of Hatchet The author of Hatchet is Gary Paulson.

The book is about a boy named Brian. Brian is 13 and his parents are sadly divorced. Brians dad is an oil engineer that lives in the oil fields in northern Canada. Brians mom lives in Ney York. Brian is the only person that knows why his mom divorced his dad. Brian calls it the secret. Brains story shows that he is a survivor; he never ever gave up. Brian saw Jake die of a heart attack. The Pilot Jakes chest started to hurt not to bad but it still hurt badly. Then Jake started to grab his chest and slamming his head into the seat. Jake was having a heart attack. Before Jake he died the radioed to an airport, but the call did not go through. Then Jake hit one of the tail rudders in the confusion. He waited until the plain was out of fuel then he crashed it into a lake. Brain had a moment of despair on his rock home. Also he was so upset, because there was a plane that flew over him without being noticed by the plane. He was so upset that he tried to kill himself by cutting his wrist with his hatchet. After awakening, he realized that he would not die and would try to live the best he possibly could. When, Brain finished his loathing he went out to hunt, gather, and relight the fire. Brian sees that the planes tail came up out of the water. When Brian thought of the survival pack in the plane he decided to go get it. That was easier said than done. He had to build a raft for a working area in the water. Finally he gets out to the plane and sees that there is

no way in; he figures out that he can cut through the metal of the plane with his hatchet. It was a great struggle to get back to shore with the survival pack. On shore, Brain goes through the pack. Also when he sees all the contents he has mixed feelings about all the things in the bag. He sees that he wouldnt have learned as much if he used the contents of the bag. In conclusion, Brians story shows that he is a survivor; he never ever gave up. The surviving the pilots heart attack when the plane went down, surviving the moment of despair, and getting the survival pack, all this shows that he was and is a survivor. With a ready flame he didnt have to know how to make a spark nest, or how to feed the new flames to make them grow. As with the rifle, he wasnt sure he liked the change. Up and down, he thought. The pack was wonderful but it gave him up and down feelings.
