OPERATING MANUAL

DESIGN AND FABRICATION OF MINIATURE THERMAL POWER PLANT

Main parts of the system
1. Electrical heater coil type 2. Pressure cooker Boiler 3. Pipe1 with throttle valve 4. Pipe2 with internal tapered diameter and nozzle 5. Turbine casing and turbine 6. Thermocouple and temperature indicator 7. Pressure gauge 8. DC generator and inverter circuit

Assembling the components

1. Open the pressure cooker lid 2. Attach the pipe1 (having throttle valve) to pressure cooker lid and tighten with the nut 3. Attach the pressure gauge and tighten it 4. Attach the thermocouple to the hole provided and press it tightly there is no screw nut arrangement for fixing thermocouple. 5. Attach the pipe2 (having internal tapered diameter and nozzle) to the other end of pipe1 attached to pressure cooker and tighten with nut provided 6. Attach the turbine casing to the other end of pipe2 and tighten it 7. After mounting the thermocouple on a base, attach the turbine shaft to the DC generator and rigidly fix the generator to the extension plate provided on the turbine casing 8. Attach the DC generator leads to the inverter circuit leads 9. Place the pressure cooker on electrical heater

Operating procedure
1. First open the pressure cooker lid and pour water up to 3/4th of the pressure cooker pan capacity (maximum). 2. Place the assembled system on the electrical heater arrangement 3. Close the throttle valve. 4. Connect the electrical heater leads to mains and switch ON the mains 5. Wait for some time as the coil type electrical heater gets heated up. Do not touch the electrical heater while it is switched ON. 6. Observe the pressure gauge reading and temperature indicator reading. 7. The maximum pressure allowed in the pressure cooker is 2 kg/cm2 . 8. Open the throttle valve slightly below this pressure for safe operation. 9. If the throttle valve is not opened in time even after reaching the maximum pressure the gasket in the pressure cooker opens and releases the pressure. 10. The turbine shaft rotates and a DC generator is connected to the shaft and initially examine the voltage produced with a Digital multi meter (DMM) and speed with noncontact tachometer. 11. Connect the DC generator leads to inverter circuit lead for storage into battery
