Pakistan Resolution

Q: Why was Pakistan Resolution passed? (7) One of the reasons for why Pakistan Resolution was passed is the Muslims belief in Two Nation Theory of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan in which he pointed out that Muslims and Hindus are separate nations and should be treated in a separate way from Hindus. Both Allama Iqbal and Rehmat Ali continued the idea of two nation theory and built it upon the ideas of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan for Muslims having their separate homeland. Allama Iqbal gave them the ideology of joining all majority Muslim provinces to form Muslim state and Rehmat Ali issued the pamphlet New or Never putting his demand for separate state to be called Pakistan. It was ideology of Muslim leaders that resulted in Pakistan Resolution. At first, Jinnah was not in favour of idea. He believed that Muslims were well-off in a federation in which their rights were protected and they had political autonomy. But the two years of Congress tyranny strengthened belief of Two-Nation theory. The steps like opting of Bande Matram as National song, Widhiya Madir Scheme, Wardha Scheme and attempts to replace Urdu by Hindi as national language continued the oppression. It showed that they just wanted the Hindu Raj to abolish Muslim culture, customs, traditions and religion from India. Due to this reason, Pakistan Resolution was passed so that the Muslims could live peacefully. However, the most important reason which added fuel to fire was the belief that Congress would be so unjust, unfair and unsympathetic in temporary phase of rule under British towards Muslims, then how would they behave and treat Muslims if the British left India after the Second World War. Muslims had earlier experienced Hindu hostility in Partition of Bengal, Nehru Report, Round Table Conferences and Congress Rule (1937-39) which made it even more clear that Muslims should have separate homeland. Therefore, Day of Deliverance was celebrated by Muslim League on the day when Congress resigned from ministries. After this, Muslim League issued Lahore resolution at the annual session in 1940, suggesting that Muslim majority provinces should be transferred to form separate Muslim nation. Q: Why is Pakistan Resolution important in the Pakistan Movement? The acceptance of the Pakistan Resolution showed that attempts by Sir Syed Ahmed Khan by improvising Two Nation theory among the subcontinent had been proved successful

and now it was only a short step away from capturing a separate new state for Muslims in the Subcontinent. Secondly, it gave the idea that the Muslims were a separate nation who should be treated in a separate way from Hindus; moreover, Muslims became more determined to work towards achieving independence through which a platform was provided to them to protect their rights, culture and religion. It was known as a rallying call for the Muslims. Thirdly, the efforts of Chaudry Rehmat Ali by writing down the pamphlet Now or Never and Allama Iqbals poetry to wake the dormant human conscience of Muslims was not wasted. Due to efforts of Jinnah in 1930s, it became possible for Muslims to demand separate homeland from British. At the annual session of Muslim League in 1940, Maulvi Fazl Ul Haq declared Regions in which Muslims are numerically a majority as in north-western zone and eastern zone of India, should be grouped to constitute independent states in which constituent utits shall be autonomous and sovereign. Now the Muslims were not ready compromise anything rather than a new Nation.
