Internship Summary My time as an intern at The Jean Burr Smith Library at Middlesex Community College has been very

productive and informative. With the assistance of a very helpful staff, I have had the opportunity to learn a lot as well as perform a number of tasks. Being at a small academic library, I was given the opportunity to assist and learn in a variety of different departments. I became familiar with, and assisted in, the circulation and reference departments. I was given instruction on the librarys cataloging process, Inter Library Loan, website CMS and eResource management. I was also introduced to their acquisition process and selection of materials. I learned about the MxCC librarys in-depth Information Literacy program and the governance of the college. I was able to observe a number of Information Literacy classes, as well as assist students with research. Below is a list of the tasks/projects that I completed during my time at the Jean Burr Smith Library. Information Literacy/Reference: o Organized & analyzed SAILS data report (Info lit. assessment) o Observed IL classes, assisted students with research o Researched possibility of using Google Voice for text-reference service o Help with your Research handout updates: Internet v. databases How to evaluate a video Scholarly vs. popular o Created libguides for ebooks and womens literature o Enhanced some older LibGuides with graphics and images o Create tip sheet for Google Smart Searching Other: o o o o o o o o Created and set up womens history month display Created Pinterest boards for new items and events Created netbook circulation policies and procedures and user agreement form Withdrew items from catalog and OPAC Weeded Psychology section. Created LibGuides and other monthly marketing materials Update citation handouts with in-text citations MLA & APA Assist with student satisfaction survey analysis
