KMRL plans to develop Kakkanad as business hub

Kochi: Aiming to develop 33 acres of land at Kakkanad as a business hub, the Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) plans to set up a realty advisory committee. As per the officially disclosed information, the committee will study and submit a report on how the area can be developed as a commercial space and can enhance the revenue generation potential. Additionally, to meet the escalating cost, KMRL also plans to rework over the ticket fares, as suggested in the detailed project report (DPR). Before finalizing the ticket rates, KMRL will conduct a detailed study of various financial aspects. We will have to take into account the huge cost incurred for land acquisition before finalizing ticket charges, said Elias George, Managing Director, KMRL. Additionally, the Metro will have a Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) system, which will have the facility to operate driverless trains.
