For wireless communication we need an antenna for transmitting and receiving the signals.

We know that the specific dimension of the antenna is quarter wavelength of transmission frequency. The prime reason for modulation is the frequency of our speech. If we decide to transmit the speech signal as it is, the antenna dimension will vary from 3.75 * 106 m (for 20 Hz) to 3.75 * 103 m (20 kHz). It is impossible to erect an antenna of this dimension. If we use carrier wave having frequency 1,000 to 100,000 times of the signal frequency, the antenna dimension and its erection will be physically viable.
