CODE AMBER - High Alert: Young Valley

A MetService Severe Weather Warning has been received for the Young Valley area (part of the Gillespie Pass Track in the Mount Aspiring National Park). Due to the current heavy rain warning the Department has issued a High Alert warning for this valley. Trampers are being advised that if they intend to use this area during this period, not to camp in the valley floor and move through the Young Valley as quickly as possible. We are putting out 'High Alert' warning signage in nearby visitor centres and at relevant track entrances. This office will review the situation on Saturday 6th July at 9.30am and depending on the level of rain received and forecast at that time, a CODE RED status may be activated to close access to the area as per the Young Valley Management Response Plan, or this alert will be removed. You will be advised immediately of any changes to the status of the valley. Kind regards
