Lesson 10.

7 Solving Radical Equations

Objectives: Find the solutions to radical equations

A. How to Solve a Radical Equation

Step 1 Isolate the radical. If the equation has more than one radical, get a radical on each side by moving one over. Raise each side of the equation to a power equal to the index of the radical (square both sides, or cube both sides, etc.) Solve the equation. If the equation still has a radical in it, repeat Steps 1 and 2. Check the solutions. Many times, a solution will not work!

Note: the final answer is y = 3/2. The second solution of y = -1 does not check. I ran out of time on the video recording so it just ends with saying to check the answers! Video tutorial: question 11
