1 ENGN1218 Introduction to Electronics
Tutorial Expectations & Group Formation • This course has weekly class tutorials from week 2-11. • During tutorials, students will work in groups of 6 and solve the tutorial problems. Students will form tutorial groups when you turn up at attend the tutorial. You can sit with your friends or classmates: maximum of 6 students/group. • The tutors are there to help answer any questions. The tutors will not be “lecturing” during the tutorials. • To pass this course, students must attend 6 out of 10 class tutorials. Tutorial attendance can play an important role in making sure you understand the course concepts and can apply them yourself to solve problems. • The tutorials are not recorded. The solutions to tutorial problems will be posted on Friday afternoon every week, after completion of all the tutorial groups.
Before each tutorial, following preparation is essential:
1. Listen to the relevant Echo360 Lectures 2. Study the relevant Textbook Sections 3. Study the weekly independent study tutorial

Tutorial in Week 4 Overview You will work in groups of 6 to solve the following problems (approx. 20 mins/problem).
1.Textbook Problem 3.37 and 3.38
2.Textbook Problem 3.33
3.Textbook Problem 3.7 (a) and (b)
–Related to Video 1 in Independent Study Tutorial in Week03
4.Textbook Problem 3.52
–Solve the circuit using at least two methods: –Delta to Y transformations AND –Resolve the circuit using KCL, KVL, Ohm’s law OR Node voltage method (if you are ahead in your learning) –Related to Videos 2 and 3 in Independent Study Tutorial in Week03
5.Textbook Problems 2.8 and 2.9
6.[Extension Problem] Circuit in CLab2 Fig. 6
–Discuss among the group how you would solve this problem using node voltage method (Independent Study Tutorial in Week04). This is the most challenging circuit in CLab2. This is to help you to prepare and successfully complete CLab2 in week 05.

3. Textbook Problem 3.7 (a) and (b) • Work in your groups to solve: Discuss among your group how in 3.7 (b), the source location in the centre of the circuit impacts how you find the equivalent resistance.
11 ENGN1218 Introduction to Electronics
• The next problem is very similar to Video 3 in Independent Tutorial in Week03 (when using KCL-KVL-Ohm’s Law to solve).
• The next problem is very similar to Videos 4 and
5 in Independent Tutorial in Week03 (when using Delta-to-Y or Y-to-Delta transformations to solve).
