Essay Analytic Geometry
In 1637, Rene Descartes(1596-1650) published his geometrie that this book was divided in another 2 books, the second one, was devoted to what has been called analytic geometry and nowadays is considered a fundamental piece, book and learning in mathematics and this book is also a milestone in the history of this science called mathematics. The link between numbers and space was established in this book. If we attend to the use of coordinates to locate a point, the origins of analytic geometry go back to Archimedes (287-212 B,C), to Apollonius of perga and, about 18 centuries after to J. Kepler (15711630) since they used the Cartesian coordinate system when studying conics. For those scientists coordinates referred to axes connected to the curve being studied. Coordinates are found in drawing which dates from the 10 or 11 century, the author is unknown, but it studied the trajectories of the planets and represented latitude and longitude as an X and Y axis, respectively. This method was adopted and still used in astronomy gave rise to a great text written by N. Oresme. Oresme work is acknowledged as the actual rise of analytic geometry. And he gave a two essential concepts: function and derivative this idea is to represent functions graphically.
