Differentiate clearly between research and Educational research Ans: Research may be defined as the systematic and objective analysis and reporting of controlled observations with a view to arrive at the development of generalizations, principles, theories or explanation of phenomena. Research aims at discovering, correcting and interpretation of new facts. It is also concerned with modifying, revisiting or verifying accepted theories or conclusions based on new information. Research is also known as a combination of experience and reasoning. Educational research is a branch of investigation that aims at solving a particular educational problem. It involves a systematic analysis with a view to arrive at a development in the field of education that enhances policy formulations, testing procedures. There are three types of educational research, namely; historical, survey and experimental. Educational research refers to variety of ways in which individuals evaluate different aspect of education including but not limited to: student learning, teaching methods, and teacher training and classroom dynamics. The findings of educational research also need to be interpreted in the context in which they were discovered as they may not be an applicable in every time or place.

Five features of Educational Research 1. Educational research is empirical, it involves the collection of data that can be used to draw conclusion. Conclusions are not based on what the author feels or think but on concrete evidence derived from data collection.

2. Educational research is theoretical 3. Each scientific investigation is built upon previous facts therefore it is cumulative 4. Research findings are always unethical 5. Educational research leads to verifiable results. The process adopted in any scientific research is such that it can be replicated by other researchers who invariably can get the same results, other things being equal.

State four relevance of Educational Research 1. Educational research assist in the formulation of educational policies 2. Aims at improving student learning 3. Evaluating and optimization of teaching methods. 4. Improving teacher training.
