Sludge Drying Plant

The sludge drying plants are especially designed for drying of wastewater sludge from municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plants. The plants are CE marked and comply with current EU and national rules, regulations and directives on this type of plants.

Features Delivers disinfected and granulated dried biosolids: US EPA Class A Flexible in regards to energy source No need for external source of energy, when the system is combined with BioCon Sludge Incineration System Low level of odour as the dryer is operated at negative pressure in a closed circuit Indirect heating of drying air Works at low drying temperatures Designed for intermittent as well as non-stop operation Optional heat recovery system Low operating and maintenance costs

heated by means of circulation of the air through heat exchangers located in the dryer. Built-in blowers circulate the air in the dryer and consequently, water contained in the sludge is evaporated. The wet drying air is led to the plants condenser and cooled by the cleaned wastewater. The dehumidified drying air is reheated and reused in the dryer. The condensate from the drying air is mixed in the condenser with the final effluent, and returned to the wastewater treatment plant. The total residence time in the dryer is more than 60 minutes at minimum 75 oC, which by far exceeds the requirements for Class A disinfected sludge.

The BioCon sludge drying plant receives dewatered sludge, containing 1730% dry solids, directly from the wastewater treatment plants dewatering equipment. Through a stainless steel pipe system, the sludge is pumped into a sludge silo. The Sludge Dryer Following the silo, the sludge is pumped directly to the sludge dryer, where the sludge is distributed on a belt in thin strings through nozzles. Drying air is circulated up through the belt and the sludge is dried to a dry solids content of approx. 50%. The sludge then drops down to a second belt, where it is dried to a 90% dry solids content. The air used for the drying process is

The Result The dried biosolids can easily be conveyed to a big bag filling system or containers. The dried biosolids is disinDryed sludge fected and as such suitable for distribution on farmland or in forests. The dried biosolids is also suitable for incineration or for cement furnaces, where Pelletised sludge the inorganic part of the sludge can be reused in the cement. Operation The plant is monitored and controlled by a SCADA system and designed for intermittent as well as non-stop operation. The plant operates unattended outside normal working hours.
