his life. He has attended Coleman Elementary, Craigmont Middle, and Craigmont High. He is currently a senior. Tavarious stands out as a scholar because he is dependable, an all around student, member of the National Honor Society, and he is the executive chef of the Star Caf. These are the same reasons why he was recommended as Student of the Month. Tavarious is a member of the National Honor Society and a member of Skills USA. After he graduates he plans on going to college, University of Tennessee at Martin. He wants to be a gastroenterology surgeon and a restaurant owner. Tavarious loves to play football, loves to volunteer, and has a passion for the culinary arts. This is his past-time and hobbies. His motto is: Live, Laugh, and Love. If students dont put forth the effort in education, opportunities will not come. Teacher Spotlight: Timothy Richmond,

Jarchella Miller was born and raised in Memphis, TN where she has lived for 47 years.
She has been a teacher for 7 years. She has taught at Craigmont 5 of her 7 years of teaching. She has also taught at Memphis Health Careers Academy and Stafford Alternative. Miller has taught family and Consumer Science, Culinary Arts, and Hospitality during her years of teaching. She now teaches Culinary 1, 2 & 3. Ms. Miller is a positive thinker and diligent. She always encourages her students to do well and never gives up. As I was interviewing Ms. Miller I noticed that she was an awesome woman and her attitude was positive. She answered every question without hesitation. She is really nice and I enjoyed interviewing her. Hobbies: Ms. Miller enjoys traveling and she has a passion for the NBA and she loves to shop. Her motto is, Every kid deserves an education. Ms. Miller sees the future of education being more focused on career readiness course. She makes sure that we get our work done and she encourages us to be excellent. She is outgoing and she does not
Ms. Glass recommended Renee Weaver because the mother of senior Robert Weaver, Ms. Renee Weaver. I recommended her because I believe she has attended every schedule parent -teacher conference for Robert. Her attendance was not because Robert wasn't doing well. It was because she is an involved parent and always informed about her son and his education.

Julius Bedford

Congratulations to the students who participated in the Solo and Ensemble Competition at the University of Memphis on February 21, 2013. Both the boys and the girls ensemble received a superior rating. Also a congratulations to the soloist Chris Winford and Julius Bedford for giving a wonderful effort. Thank you to the Craigmont choir for representing our school well at the competition and for showing up and showing out. Be sure to congratulate all choir members on their success this year.
Memphis in May Foreign Exchange

The Craigmont Optional School is pleased to announce that Nicholas Lancaster was picked as a finalist in the Memphis in May Foreign Exchange Program. He submitted an application, essay, and passed a grueling group interview to be accepted for this once in a lifetime opportunity. Memphis in May provided Nicholas and 11 other Memphis area students with airfare, transportation, room, and board. Nicholas will spend 10 days in Sweden sightseeing, taking classes in a Swedish high school, and being a student ambassador from Memphis. Please look for the Sweden booth at the upcoming International Festival on Friday, April 5 th; Nicholas will be present to show pictures and answer questions about his trip.

Congratulations to the Craigmont High School Debate Team for the wonderful accomplishments they have made throughout the season. First, the team of Malcolm Walls and Kalehma Talib-Dean received a quarters final trophy at the Debate Tournament that was held in February at Trezevant High School. They also each received a speaker award. Also another accomplishment that has been made is by the team of Nicollette Rogers and Nicholas Lancaster. The team of Nicolette Rogers and Nicholas Lancaster has kept the Craigmont 1st Place Trophy at Craigmont. They too received speaker awards. Can they do it again? Lets see. Come and support the Debate Team on March 2,2013 and March 3, 2013 at Craigmont High School as the Chiefs close out the year with another trophy.

Memphis Urban Debate League Championship

The Memphis Urban Debate League season culminated at the City Championships on March 1st and 2nd at Craigmont High School. Over 125 high school debaters from 12 Memphis City Schools battled for the championship. Craigmont Highs Nicholas Lancaster and Nicolette Rodgers advanced to the JV semifinals, with Nicholas winning 5th best JV speaker and Nicolette being crowned the best overall JV speaker. The debate season will conclude with a honors banquet at Germantown Baptist Church in late April.
