The Performance Optimisation Group (POG) activities include calculating turbine heat rate and boiler efficiency on a daily and weekly basis. Readings are taken at maximum stable load and discussed in planning meetings. Heat rate reports are circulated for review. Software is used to calculate performance metrics. Detailed performance tests are done weekly to calculate boiler efficiency and monitor auxiliaries. Samples are taken and results are used to update boiler efficiency weekly. Consolidated performance reports are prepared monthly and sent to the corporate office for discussion in optimization committee meetings (OCM). Monthly reports are discussed in heat rate review meetings. Trends are displayed to make employees aware of plant performance.

Turbine heat rate calculations are done on daily basis and boiler efficiency on weekly basis. Input parameters required for this are made available by operation staff in the prescribed format FF9201 for daily turbine heat rate calculations and FF 9205, 0206, 9207 9208 for weekly efficiency calculations. Readings are preferably taken at maximum possible and stable load. The same are discussed and analyzed in planning meeting. Heat rate report (FF-9202) is circulated to all PCRs and Sr. Officers for review . Software supplied by CE (TIC) MSPGCL Nagpur Units is used for heat rate and plant performance calculations. Detailed performance test carried out once in a week for calculating boiler efficiency and to monitor performance of auxiliaries like condenser, HP/LP heaters, Air heaters and Turbine cylinders. During test period chemist draw samples of coal fired ( for analysis of moisture, ash, carbon, volatile matter, calorific values & mill fineness) , ash for unburnt analysis, flue gas at air heater inlet / outlet ( for O2 / CO2 measurement) chemist then submit the result of coal , ash, analysis (FF-8551) O2 , Co2 analysis (FF 8549) and Mill performance (FF 8550). Boiler efficiency is updated weekly on the basis of outcome of above test. Consolidation of performance reports for unit 1 to 7 is prepared once in a month based on representative results from weekly performance report (FF 9211). Coal fineness report (FF 9212), unburnt in as report (Ff-9213) DM Water / H2 cylinder consumption report (FF9214) and performance evaluation report for U 1 to 4 (FF 9215) The monthly heat rate report for Unit 1 to 7 is sent to corporate office in summarized form (FF-9219) for discussion in OCM. Monthly reports are discussed with PIG in monthly heat rate review meeting \conducted by CGM. Review of heat rate is taken periodically or when major deviations in related parameters are observed. Requiring immediate corrective action. The review meeting is conducted by Sr.E.E. - 1A (POG In charge) GM 1 takes the review once in a month in the same meeting. Minutes of meeting are recorded (FF 9227) and circulated to concerned officers. Trends of monthly heat rate, PLF and specific DM water consumption is displayed in all PCRs, OS I section & notice boards for making all employees aware of the plant performance ( FF 9237).
