Location Notes

Planning and Research: After laying the foundation of our plot we drew up the synopsis and the script with a little knowledge on what the location would look like. We decided then to have a group meeting where we discussed ideas on the location. First we re-read the synopsis and the script and highlighted where there were any reference to location and characters in a location. After that we concluded that we will require two locations with a house on an end of a corner street. As a group we then listed the pros and cons of each location. We came to a conclusion that Anukas house would be the ideal location to shoot our production. The next following days we took our free time to visit the location and assess for any hazards. We also took the script with us so that it enabled us to visualise the plot easier. When we did the research and planning, we discovered that meeting the boyfriend/girlfriends parents took place their home according to movies such as Bride and Prejudice (2004) and all cultures.

LIVING ROOM

CORNER STREET

The living room is the main location of our production. When visiting the location, it was spacious, cosy and modern. This is the ideal location as it reflects the professionalism and high expectations of a traditional, wealthy family. The lighting in the location is perfect during the day as there are two windows in the front and back of the living room. This will make it easier for us to film scenes of the meeting.

This is another important location for us as this is where our final scene will take place and where everything falls into place in terms of the plot. The corner street allows our characters Saira and Trevor/James to walk away from the house and discuss whether their plan worked. It also allows them to open their secret away from the mother. Furthermore the area is quite and secluded allowing filming to take place in peace with no disturbance.

KITCHEN

Our film opens in the kitchen. We needed to use this location as it opens and reflects the culture of the family. Saira and her mother will be discussing their issues. Although the kitchen is narrow, there is plenty of space to prevent risks of the cast and crew from falling over. During our research we discovered that many Asian mother and daughters spend their time in the kitchen as a preparation to a settled family life, this is parallel to Saira and her mothers relationship.
