REFLECTION: Yesterday, I had the opportunity to present a writing lesson to six principals and the Principal Director for the PLAS schools. The lesson took place in my classroom and the objective was to observe how writing instruction of the new Headquarter Writing Program was implemented in our school. After the observation, I had the opportunity to debrief with the principals in our library. We discussed the systems and structures they observe in my class and how differentiated instruction played such an important role in the small group rotations they observed. The principals reflected on how well the routines worked during the rotations and they were quite impressed on how independent my students behaved. I explained to them that it took months for to get to this stage in the game. But, that with high expectations and rigorous instructional practices the results are evident.
