What is aerospace engineering?


Aerospace engineering is a career field that uses physics, mathematics, chemistry, and other disciplines to develop new technologies for use in aviation, defense systems, and spacecraft.

Main Specializations
Aeronautical engineering: designing aircraft and propulsion systems usually within Earths atmosphere Astronautical engineering: applying the science of spacecraft and developing technology for use in and out of Earths atmosphere

Salary and Job Outlook


Entry-level salaries are typically around $61,379. Very experienced aerospace engineers earn around $145,832. Salaries of mid-career aerospace engineers average at $88,342 a year. Employment is predicted to grow 5% from 2010 to 2020.
