Alex Myers collected over 341 lbs. of aluminum cans to win a Mongoose Bicycle and help Freedom House, a homeless shelter in Effingham! He had two minivans full and a truck pulling a trailer! When he heard about Recycling for Christ on the radio, he was up for the challenge. Alex loves to take meals to the shelter to help out the homeless. He is always wanting to help anybody that needs it. People in the community were a great help!. Alex has been working on his pedaling and riding a bicycle skills with his Physical and Occupational Therapist and is now riding his new bike with some assistance!

Play Groups begin October 10th 10:00-11:00 a.m. Play groups will meet the second Thursday of each month, beginning October 10th. Play groups are for children ages 2-5 who are on the autism spectrum. Play groups will meet at The Autism Program, located at 6081 Development Drive, Charleston. Most of the play sessions will be structured play activities that promote positive interactions amongst the children. October 7thKeeping it Real: Facilitating Natural Communication When Communication Doesnt Come Naturally 8:009:00 p.m. Web Conference presented by Sarah Weiler, M.S., CCC-SLP/L. Learn the basic principles of DIR/ Floortime, as well as the natural developmental framework for language. Cost $15 (Scholarships available by contacting Integrated Therapy Services at 618-783-7529). Teen Connect of Champaign October 12th Hardys Reindeer Ranch1356 County Road 2900 N. Rantoul, IL 11:00 a.m.4:00 p.m. We will do the Triple Play! $11 a person gets you the corn maze, hay ride, and cart rides. Reindeer Tour may be substituted for hay ride or cart ride at an additional $4. Extra money may be needed for souvenirs or concessions at the Banquet Hall. They will also have pumpkins for sale. October 25th5:009:00 p.m. Effingham Elks Special Needs Awesome Party Dance (SNAP) held at the Effingham Elks in front of the Mall. Come and enjoy a night of fun with a DJ, fames, food and prizes for special needs children and children of all ages! The Effingham Park District sponsors athletic leagues for children with disabilities in an environment structured for the child to succeed. A buddy system is in place for all players through the use of volunteers. Anyone with a physical or mental disability who cannot safely or successfully participate in the traditional sport are eligible to participate. These leagues free. All costs are covered by generous donation made by the Teutopolis Knights of Columbus and other private donations. The information contained on the medical card assists first responders in the golden hour immediately following a serious crash. This could mean the difference between life and death.
