2. Objectives:
Prepare gradually the student for other scientific sub areas of Animal Health and to
scientific areas of Animal Clinics, Production and Food Safety through the specific study
of helminths more prevalent in domestic, wild and aquatic animals and Man. Prepare
the student to be able to perform lab techniques for parasitological diagnosis and to
interpret results obtained.

3. Programme:
Theoreticals: Introduction to Helminthology. Specific study of parasites belonging to
main families from Trematoda, Cestoda and Nematoda classes.
Practicals: Methods of collecting, preserving and making evident the presence of
parasitic forms in animal blood, feces, urine and environment. Coprologycal methods
and coprocultures. Microscopical study of parasite preparations belonging to
Trematoda, Cestoda e Nematoda classes.

5. Assessment:
Final examination is composed of a written test (multiple choice and development
questions) and practical test (Lab techniques of parasitological diagnosis and parasite
identification). Final classification results from continuous evaluation and the average of
marks obtained in written and practical tests.
