Christina Fackler MUSE 356: Choral Methods I Chapter 7: Working with Adolescent Singers Kenneth H.

Phillips 2004 What are the personal characteristics needed to be a choral director for adolescents? Educators of adolescents must really love kids. It is a hard age that not everyone is cut out to deal with. Adolescents need structure and to know that you care about their well-being. The first time I taught warm-ups at Delta Middle School this semester, Mrs. Olfier had the 6th grade students tell me what they thought I did well. They proceeded to tell me that I was gentle with them and went at a pace they were comfortable with and could understand. One of the girls said that I was very comforting. I was thrilled to hear feedback directly from them and to hear that they liked what they saw. I try very hard to make sure any environment Im in is a welcoming and comforting one for everyone. I think this is something that will help me a lot in the field because students feel comfortable around me.
