University of North Texas Fall 2 2013 Intensive English Language Institute Week II: October 28 - November 3

Halloween Costume Party - Monday, October 28, 11:45 AM - 1:15 PM, in the Ballroom at the Class Schedule for Monday, Oct. 28, Gateway Center. Come celebrate the beginning of a new term at IELI and make new friends. ONLY There will be pizza, drinks, games, and prizes. Wear a costume and participate in the costume contest! We will award prizes to the best costume in each of these categories: Scary, Animal, A: 8:10 9:45am Funny, Creative, and Group Effort (2 or more people). B: 10:05 11:40am Lunch and Learn: How to Register for UNT Classes - Thursday, October 31, 12:00 - 1:00 PM, in Welcome Party SYMR 260. If you are a Level 6 student who will attend UNT in the Spring, you should join us in D: 1:20 2:55pm this session to learn how to use the UNT online class registration site and learn about which E: 3:15 4:50pm classes are best to take your first year at UNT. Dont forget to bring your lunch! Sixth Floor Museum and Downtown Dallas - Saturday, November 2, 11:30 AM - 5:00 PM. This November is the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in Dallas. Learn about this historical moment in American history with IELI and then explore downtown Dallas. If you would like to go, sign up in Ambers office, SYMR 202 by Friday, November 1.

International students are invited to share dinner at an American Home on Saturday, November 16, from 5:30 PM 8:30 PM. This will be a wonderful opportunity for you to meet an American family, learn about American culture, and also share about your home country. Please email Lara at ISFTHEVILLAGE@GMAIL.COM to receive an application to sign up for the event. The deadline to sign up for this event is Monday, November 4, 2013. Friends can sign up together in groups of two. Each person must complete an individual application. Limited space available. First come, first served. Please only sign up if you are SURE that you can honor this commitment to attend. The host families are excited to meet you, and we do not want to cancel your dinner meeting. This event is organized by the International Student Fellowship (ISF). ISF is a Christian-based ministry of The Village Church in Denton, Texas.

All students in ALL levels are welcome to come to Conversation Hour. Dont miss out on this opportunity to practice your English outside of class! You will talk with Americans about different topics each week. This is a great way to make new friends, have fun, and practice your English! You do not need to sign up. The first meeting for Fall II will be Monday, October 28, from 5:00 - 6:00 PM in the Student Lounge or SYMR 260.

Attention students in Levels 4-6: Have you applied to UNT? If so, you should attend one of these meetings. Going to UNT Meeting (Undergraduate or 2nd Bachelors) Tuesday, October 29, 12:10 - 1:00 PM, in SYMR 203. Going to UNT Meeting (Graduate) - Wednesday, October 30 , 12:10 - 1:00 pm in SYMR 203.

Students who are eligible for the Health Insurance Waiver for Fall II 2013 must turn in the signed waiver form and proof of insurance by Friday, November 1, 2013, to Alissas office, SYMR 205. Please feel free to speak to Alissa if you have any questions.

Are you missing your mobile phone, keys, sunglasses, ID card, or jewelry? If so, you can find it in the Main Office, SYMR 204. If you ever lose something at IELI, this should be the first place you go to find it. If you find something that isnt yours, please turn it in to the Main Office as well.

Check out each Weekly Memo to see which live lectures are being offered and when.

What is a tailgating party? Originating in the USA, tailgating occurs in the parking lots at stadiums and arenas, before and occasionally after games and concerts. It is a social event usually held around the open tailgate of a vehicle. Remember to attend IELI and UNT Internationals tailgating party before the homecoming football game on Saturday, November 9. There will be lots of free food and drinks. The party starts at 11:30 AM! The game begins at 2:30 PM.

All New Fall 2 international students are required to be screened for tuberculosis after beginning classes at UNT/IELI. Call the Health and Wellness center yourself, or come by Ambers office (SYMR 202) to make your appointment if you need help. You must complete a TB test between Monday, November 4, and Thursday, November 14.

Write a story for the IELI Star! Be creative! You can submit poetry, artwork, or creative writing. You can write about an event that you attended, or you can interview one of your classmates, friends, or teachers. Become famous at IELI by being a part of this newsletter! Stop by Ambers office (202) to talk about ideas, or email your material to Amber.Hallberg@unt.edu before November 8.

When you go to the Health Center, you must bring three forms with you: TB Screening Record, Medical History Form, and TB Screening Form. You should have received the forms at orientation. If you need extra copies of the forms, have questions, or would like help making your appointment, come to Ambers office, SYMR 202.

UNT 101: How to Apply Meeting - Wednesday, November 6, 12:101:00 PM in SYMR 271. If you are interested in learning about UNT and the many programs offered, you should attend this meeting.

Pronunciation Power Orientation, Friday, November 1, from 12:00 - 1:00 PM in SYMR 242. Levels 4, 5, and 6 students should attend this orientation. Pronunciation Power will help students reduce their accent to sound more like a native speaker.

Do you need something new to watch? Want to practice your listening skills? There will be a new activity for students where you can watch popular TV shows during your lunch break! It will be every Wednesday and Friday, 12:00 - 1:00 PM in MARQ 305. Bring your lunch and enjoy!
