Nunez Alice and Wonderland play at Birney Elementary The elementary production of Lewis Carrolls Through the Looking Glass was lovably portrayed by the young cast. The set behind the actors was a mushroom like jungle that goes well with the Alice and Wonderland story. The costuming done by J. Luviano was very creative and aesthetically appealing. The first dance is done when Alice falls through the rabbit hole and she ends up confused and I believe the confusion she felt was represented by the dancers around her. The dance consisted of five girls who did a sort of contemporary choreography. Many of the steps were repeated to create a dramatic scenario. One of the steps that was especially done that I personally thought was good was the girls bringing the arms about the front of their face while throwing their heads back after having kept themselves facing the ground, all while in a s-formation on the ground. The costuming for the dancers consisted of metallic purple tights and a white tank top with no shoes. During the performance there were some technical difficulties but this was the first-time production of the school and the students were restricted to a minimal amount of time to practice since the play was provided through the afterschool program. When Alice was encountered with microphone problems she did a great job at playing it off or if that was inevitable she usually kept the audience entertained with her funny facial expressions at the situation. The play ended with a final dance where tea pots would run around the stage dancing to mimic the craziness of the story. The play was very funny and enjoyable, because of the performers and because of the artistic director, J. Luviano, for creating great visuals for the play.
