Additional Activity 2: One Number, 4 Ways

Work in a group of 4. You will need Base Ten Blocks and 6 copies of Master 2.10, cut into cards. Choose a starter. The starter says any 3-digit number. She writes it on a standard-form card. The next person models the number with Base Ten Blocks. He fills in a sum card for the number. The third person fills in a base-ten name card. The fourth person records the number in a place-value chart card. Here is a sample round.
Standard form: As a sum: Base-ten name: 3 2 1 hundred tens ones Place-value chart: Hundreds Tens Ones

Take It Further
Use the cards you made. Play Concentration: Shuffle the cards. Spread them face down on a table. Take turns. Turn over 2 cards. Look for a pair that shows the same number. If you make a match, keep the cards. If not, turn them back over. The game ends when all the cards are gone. The winner is the one with the most matching pairs.
