1. Race to 1000 (4 players)

Equipment:

-Deck of cards (cards through ace to 9 only)

-Die

How to play:

-The deck of cards is distributed evenly among the players.

-Each player lays 3 cards in frontof them and makes a 3-digit number with the cards
they turned over. Eg. with the cards 6, 3, and 8 they could make 368, 386, 683, 638,
836, or 863.

-One player then rolls the die. If a 1, 3, or 5 is rolled, the lowest number wins 100 points.
If a 2, 4, or 6 is rolled, the highest number wins 100 points.

-The first player to 1000 is the winner.

2. Make 10 (5 players)

Equipment:

-Die

How to play:

-A die is rolled.

-Players try to be the first player to shout what number needs to be added to the
number on the die to make a 10.

-The number needed to make 10 becomes the player’s score for that round. For
example, if a 3 is rolled, players would shout 7, because 3 and 7 make 10.The first
player to answer correctly earns 7 points.
3. Uno Flip (4 players)

Equipment:

-The number cards from a pack of Uno cards

-Post-it notes

How to play:

-Write a + symbol onto a post-it note and an = symbol on a post-it note and place on the
table face up to form an addition equation, leaving room for the Uno cards to sit
between the symbols.

-Divide your Uno number cards into two piles and place the piles.

-Flip over one card from each pile and place it into the addition equation. For mental
maths, say the answer out loud as quickly as you can. To practise writing equations,
write the addition sentence, including the answer, onto your sheet of paper.

-Continue to flip over two cards at a time and say or record each answer.

-To revise times tables with Uno flip, swap the addition symbol for a multiplication
symbol. Proceed as per the mental math or written equation.

4. Card Turnover (5 players)

-Deck of cards (cards through ace to 9 only)

How to play:

-Shuffle the cards and divide them in to two equal piles, face down on the playing

surface.

-The teacher turns over the top card on each pile.

-Players multiply the two numbers, and the first player to call out the correct answer is

the winner. That player gets to keep both cards. For example, if the cards turned up are
a 7 and a 4, then the problem becomes: 7 x 4. The player that calls out the correct

answer of 28 keeps the cards.

-If both players say the answer at the same time, then they keep one card each.

-If the answer is incorrect, then both cards are placed back at the bottom of the piles.

-The winner is the player with the most cards at the end.

5. 4 Minutes (5 players)

Equipment:

-2 dice

How to play:

-Roll the dice and add the numbers together.

-Your students need to write as many number sentences for the number (e.g. 12) as

they can within 4 minutes.

-For example:7 + 5, 20 – 8, 4 x 3, 24 / 2, and etc.

-They score their sums in this way: Addition sums are worth 1 point, Multiplication sums

are worth 2 points, Subtraction sums are worth 3 points, and Division sums are worth 4

points.

-The student with the most points is the winner.
