Show-and-Tell: This month students will find (print off online or hard copy) and bring in an article from a newspaper about a current event (within the last few months) that they can make a connection to. Please read the article with your child and they should answer the 5Ws about the article (Who, What, When, Where, Why) and 1H (How). They should also make a connection with the article (This article is aboutIt reminds me of.because). I will provide index cards if they are required. They will present this to the class on their Show and Tell Day (at the bottom of each day). ! If you have any newspapers at home that you can donate to the class, please do so! This is very much appreciated!

Parent/Teacher Interviews (November 12-15th): A form will be sent home with interview times on Tuesday, November 5th. Please return the forms by Thursday, November 7th with your time preferences. A confirmation note will be sent home with Report Cards on Monday, November 11th, which will confirm the time and day of your interview with me.
Recorders: There has been a delay in the shipment of the recorders. If you have still not paid for one, but would like your child to have one, you can still send in a cheque for $5.45. Recorders will hopefully be shipped by mid-late November. Mr. Blair has reminded us that the brightly coloured recorders (ones from the dollarstore) are not allowed for the purpose of Recorder class. Curriculum Focus this Month: Math We are working on Number Sense and Numeration (Place Value, addition/subtraction) and soon after we will move onto Data Management (graphing). Language We will be working on re-telling and summarizing fiction texts (short stories) and non-fiction texts (Biographies) Making Connections. We will also begin writing Biographies and Autobiographies. Poetry Folders go home on Fridays and are to be returned on Tuesday the following week. Please read through the poem with your child to ensure understanding and practice answering one (grade 2) or two (grade 3) discussion questions from the front flap of the poetry folder. Reading folders will go home this month as well. Your childs level will be written on the first page of the reading log. Folders will go home on Tuesdays and be returned on Fridays so that new books can be exchanged with old ones in the folder. Please log twice a week what your child is reading and make any comments (if applicable) about what you noticed about their reading. I will also check to make sure they are signed by parents on Fridays. Social Studies We will complete our integrated unit combining both units of study (Grade 2: Celebrations and Traditions and Grade 3: Pioneers while also touching on Urban and Rural Communities). Science We are beginning units on: Grade 2: Solids and Liquids Grade 3: Forces acting on Structures
