Area of Mastery: Instructional Design Title of Artifact: Technology Tinkerers

This project, Technology Tinkerers, is a fully developed unit plan for a technology-integrated lesson created for fifth grade students. It was created for Dr. Cowans ETT 571: Instructional Technology Program Development course. Our group, Dee Dee Aldrich, Chris Burken, Lynnea Urbanowicz, and me collected our information on Google Docs and collaborated through online discussion in our Sandbox to complete the assignment. Throughout this project we worked together to structure the: lesson ideas, alignment of standards, layout of lessons, instructional strategies and evaluation plan. The unit we designed paid special attention to the UID, universal instructional design. We discussed the importance of looking at all aspects of various learners that you might have in your classroom. Our unit plan provides multiple ways to assess learning, along with multiple methods for the students to review key concepts and communicate throughout the unit. Technology Tinkerers was a great way to learn the importance of how to integrate learners, standards, and assessment into everyday lesson creation. Working with peers to discuss the many different angles to consider in the development of unit plans, helped me to understand the importance of addressing all areas of lesson preparation when developing them on my own. This artifact affects student learning in several ways. First, the lessons were developed with student needs in mind. Knowing that students learn in a variety of ways, our lessons allow for movement and interaction throughout the

teaching and learning process. Secondly, we have allowed for multiple methods of assessment at various intervals allowing the students to demonstrate proficiency during the modules. A final affect on students is the incorporation of technology in the classroom setting. With more and more technology available to students today, this unit develops a foundation for continued technology use for years to come.
