phytoremediation plants will be planted in the floating boxes in the holland tunnel site during phase one. oyster habitat will be provided on the gabions and open water channels with oysters that can filter up to 50 gallons of water per day per oyster. the plants will also be able to filter up to one gallon per plant a day.

after the soil and water have been cleaned the boxes will be replanted with marketable plant materials. the floating boxes will contain new plants to be harvested. gabions underwater will create a submerged habitat for underwater edible species.

ADDITIONAL MARKETING FUTURE USERS (2030+) food trucks and street markets selling produce bringing in communities through volunteer program organizing community mealtimes and events preserving ecological substances for future use

boxes will be held in place by steel poles that will facilitate the rising of the boxes with the tide. on the poles significant flood levels can be marked after each event to educate the public on the significance of each flood. Hg

excavated land and dredge material will be used to fill the boxes that are planted with phytoremediators. crushed concrete from the construction process will be used to fill the gabions that will provide habitat for oysters and seaweed.

FORAGING FLOATS

following phase one the soil in the boxes can be tested for contamination. if the soil still isn't suitable for agriculture then it will be replaced and the contaminated soil will be sent to another location for more phytoremediation. the planters will be filled with fertile soil suitable for marketable agriculture to be used in the aquaponics marketing program.

In the open area between the walkway of the Holland Tunnel Exhaust, there will be no floating structures rather, there will just be gabions. This will provide an open space for harvesting oysters and other submergent edible plants

Holland tunnel is located in a populated area with many visited sites surrounding it. First phytoremedation plants will be used to clean up the river water and soil. The plant boxes will be capable of filtering 43,700 gallons of water per day. The gabions could filter up to 256,000,000 gallons of water per day. Following the river water clean up, the plant boxes will grow edible salt water plants in clean soil. The boxes will be available for the public to use and help make aware of the results from the process. Future use of the box could potentially include the selling of salt tolerant plants to create a new marketable area with local products.

After the phytoaccumulators successfully clean the soil and the soil is replaced by dredged material, people can harvest foarging foods on the floating infrastructures. These will be sent to the food truck to sell on the streets of NYC and to provide a new set of produce to other stores and restaurants in the area.
