LITERACY focus standards

CCSS RL.1.5 Students will explain major differences between books that tell stories and books that give information Strategy: Students will identify the features of fiction and non-fiction texts. This weeks story is Life in the Forest. The genre is expository text. CCSS L.1.4.a Determine or clarify the
meaning of unknown words and phrases using sentence-level context as a clue to the meaning.

MATH focus standards

CCSS: Numbers and Operations in Base Ten
1.NBT.C.5 Given a two-digit number, mentally find 10 more or 10 less than the number, without having to count; explain the reasoning used. 1.NBT.C.6 Subtract multiples of 10 in the range 1090 from multiples of 10 in the range 10-90 (positive or zero differences), using concrete models or drawings and strategies based on place value, properties of operations, and/or the relationship between addition and subtraction; relate the strategy to a written method and explain the reasoning used.
