Inquiry Lesson Plan Analysis: Dream On I really like this lesson plan because it is creative, well organized, has

clear learning objectives, and connects science to the students everyday lives. Over all this lesson plan is very strong. The only weaknesses I noticed were that it would be difficult to implement some aspects of this lesson plan with younger children because they do not have very much control over their sleep schedule. This lesson plan asks students to make changes to their sleep zone which may require parental involvement which may be difficult for some families. The aspects of this lesson plan that connect to the inquiry model are: content, the learning objectives, identifying the question, generating hypotheses, gathering and displaying data, assessing hypotheses and generalizing data, and evaluation. The content of this lesson addresses how sleep affects your health. The question is: am I getting enough sleep? Students answer this question by gathering and displaying data of their sleep habits and how they feel into a chart. The students then generate hypotheses about how they can change their sleeping habits and sleep zone so that they can get the amount of sleep that they need. The evaluation piece is for students to discuss how well they slept before and after making changes to their sleep zones. If I could tweak this lesson I would use it for middle school and high school students. This lesson is geared for elementary students, and although I think that they would benefit from learning about sleep, I think that older students would benefit more because they have the worst sleep habits. Also, older students have greater control over their sleeping habits and their sleep zones than elementary students do. If I was teaching this lesson with high school students I would include the TED talk by Russell Foster Why do we sleep? However, over all I really

like this lesson and I think that it could work well with any age group with the proper modifications.
